    Abstract

This book review examines Susan M. Schweik's 'The Ugly Laws: Disability in Public', which explores America's history of disability laws that segregated individuals deemed 'ugly' or disabled from public view. Schweik, a disability studies scholar, analyzes how these laws from the 1800s continue to influence contemporary educational practices and segregation of people with disabilities. The review highlights the book's examination of laws in 12 US locations and the Philippines, and draws parallels to modern educational segregation in K-12 schools.
